Fun Facts About Ecology

Ecology is the best way you can understand every organism and how it relates to the next. This branch of science deals with the interactions between living organism to the environment and its surrounding. It is hard to explain when the ecology started. This is due to the way its elements intersect. Organisms have been dependent on other organisms for decades, and it is, therefore, hard to tell when exactly the chain started. Some of the exciting ecology facts include; Who made the first ecology observations?

Hippocrates and Aristotle we the first recorded scientist who wrote down their observations about the relationships between which came to be termed as ecology. Herodotus remarked on balance in nature and how they are regulated which was named the ecosystem, and these observations lead him to be put on the top lift of the early ecological research. When did the ecology concept begin?

As mentioned earlier, it is hard to understand when exactly the ecology concept began but it is known that most of the essential ideas about ecology came to be in the late 1700s when scientists started to understand some concepts such as heredity, food chains, and population management. Later on, the scientists began to observe and understand some of the theories of the planets and how they affect the living creatures. These are theories such as adaption and evolution of living things.

The term ecology was then developed in 1866 in Ernst Haeckel.

Elements of ecology

Ecology stresses on the life processes of living things, their adaptations, energy and the development of the ecosystem. It also deals with how biodiversity manifests itself in the environment. What does biodiversity entail? This can be termed as a variety of plants and animals in a particular habitat. For example, deserts are known to be low in biodiversity. This is because they have limited species due to the lack of enough elements required for animal and plants survival.

Coral reefs on the other side have high biodiversity since they are favorable for survival. Some human activities have reduced biodiversity in most areas due to their activities such as cutting trees, hunting and fishing. What are food chain and a food web? Ecology deals with the relationship among organisms. It explains how some organisms depend on the others and this includes dependency regarding food.

Some species eat others, and other species consume them. A food chain can be termed as a connection of up to six species of organisms depending on what they eat. What about a food web? The ecosystem is made of thousands of species, and every species can be a part of more than one food chains. A food web can be referred to as the interconnection of food chains. It is made up of producers who are basically plants, consumers who are organisms that feed on plants or animals and decomposers which consume the dead organisms. The decomposers are mostly bacteria and fungi.

The ecosystem keeps changing and today; people are replacing the grasslands and forests with buildings. Other factors that affect the ecosystem are natural disasters such as floods and earthquakes. Some changes are hard to notice while others are highly noticeable. A single change in the ecosystem leads to significant effects on how organisms relate which leads to changes to the entire ecology. That’s why in small ways, we can help save it. By using the best chemical free oven cleaner, or chemical free cosmetics, it can have a big impact in saving our Earth.
